Portable gaming device?

What is the best portable gaming device to get? I was thinking about getting a ROG ally ROG Ally (2023) | Gaming Handhelds|#playALLYourgames |ROG Global or a Steam Deck Steam Deck™ but idk which one. Maybe a switch 2 but nintendo fucked up palworld :frowning:

I don’t know much about handheld devices, but one thing I DO know: do NOT, I repeat, do NOT get a Switch 2. Just trust me, don’t. All you gotta do is look into Nintendo’s current state as both a game publisher and a company, and you’ll know why. I like Steam Decks, so I guess I would recommend that.

The switch 1 can’t run cyberpunk tho and they showed the switch 2 can

Fair enough, but Nintendo had multiple chances to make the Switch 1 more powerful and just… chose not to every single time. Plus, especially recently, Nintendo has turned into such a money greedy company that they are charging $10 for the Welcome Tour (which literally just teaches you how to use your console), whereas things like Astro Bot for the PS4 and Aperture Desk Job for the Steam Deck are completely free. The “C” button on the Switch 2 is locked behind a paywall, and every single other feature on the console is paywalled as well, such as the video chat (which is horrible quality) and the USB-C camera for said chat, which is $55 by the way. Just… again, trust me, it isn’t worth emptying your wallet for what the Switch 1 should have been.

I.. I am starting to think the steam deck is a better choice, tho more “vanilla” but that is not a bad thing right?

Not necessarily, no, in my opinion. Sometimes simple things are the best. And I do wanna clarify: if you do decide to get a Switch 2, that’s perfectly fine. I just would not recommend it, especially as the average price of a Steam Deck is about $400, whereas the Switch 2 is $450 (without anything included; over $500 if you get a game with it). MoistCritikal made a few really good videos going over how greedy Nintendo is becoming, but just… yeah, I would recommend the Steam Deck.

I’d say the steam deck.
One of the most important things to note is the Steam Deck is isn’t not compatible with as many games as the ROG.

But the ROG isn’t as polished, has poorer battery, and isn’t as “optimized” as it runs Windows which is designed for laptops and desktops not portable devices like that.

Yeah, a lot of nintendo games have to have special releases where they remove a lot on hidden things to allow it to run on their devices.

Example: Warframe has many graphics settings not even as options (I know this isn’t a huge reason but it’s a thing where steamdeck can run higher power games on higher graphics.)

The best example of Nintendo doing this was Bo1 for Wii, the game was completely different despite being the same maps, from the graphics to the massive box floating behind the bus outside it is the same game just made to run on lesser parts.

The switch 2 already has been proven to not be as insane as they led it on to be and has gone many changes that make it not worth it.
(Example, you don’t own any games just keys so they can remove it. And they have the right to brick your device whenever they want so you don’t own your device either.)
