Podcasting solo/remote tips

What podcasting tools does everyone use? Me and my posse are using Audacity with RE20 ElectroVoice microphones and sit around a table. Though we are having issues finding times to meet to record so we’re looking to go more remote recording or have to do podcasts solo. With the microphones, we can’t just dismantle and remantle every few days. We might have to go remote, maybe use different equipment.

How do podcasters handle remote podcasting? Looking for articles like How to Record a Podcast Remotely [2024 Guide] | Captivate or How to Record a Podcast Remotely or Long-Distance [2024] are not really helpful because they are clear sponsored articles.

We also might need to do some solo-podcasts, which none of us have experience with. Anyone have tips on that either? I tried recording a few and sending it over for editing however it just feels awkward recording solo.

Tried looking for more portable mics I could get my posse for the occasional remote recordings but can’t find anything good.

What software would you use? Using audacity rn can’t figure a way to record remotly as i can’t do multiple audio sources at once for the recording.

This subject like many can be way overthought. Simply all you need is a way to record and a platform. We do have some pretty good mic’s but don’t have the ability to meet up for most of the podcasts.

Recording solo episodes can be awkward as you are just talking to yourself waiting for the end goal but for us our experience is actually mostly from streaming. A lot of early streams and some current ones especially on most members main channels have had very little interaction, so we have to find a way to try and sound entertaining with nothing to work off except what we are reacting to. Just like reacting to gameplay we can react to words on a page (usually a bullet point list since it lets us spin off into other directions and thoughts unlike a dedicated script.)

To put it all simply a lot of the work is just making sure you are comfortable with what you do, even if it feels odd talking to yourself to get it accomplished. There is no guaranteed method, in fact a lot of podcasts with other people are over Discord (or some used to use Skype).

As for the software (I forgot to respond to that, but the first section mostly covers it, we use many different ones depending on what we have available, we used to use Anchor (now podcasts for Spotify or something like that), Obs recording that got turned into an audio file, just a regular phone recording, etc.

We don’t have mobile mics otherwise though.
